The SIRENA Project officially began with its Kick-Off Meeting, held in Athens, Greece, from 1 to 3 July 2026 and hosted by the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), coordinator of SIRENA.

The three-day meeting brought together representatives from the project’s 10 partners across the Mediterranean: NTUA, the Institut Supérieur des Sciences Biologiques Appliquées de Tunis (ISSBAT), BETA Technological Centre (UVic-UCC), the University of Bologna (UNIBO), Environmental Without Borders Foundation (EWBF), WECEN, SEMIDE, Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), Université Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah (USMBA), and CogniSensus, alongside representatives from the PRIMA Partnership.

Throughout the meeting, partners exchanged views on the project’s priorities and planned activities for the coming years. The programme included dedicated sessions on project coordination, digital solutions, communication and dissemination, capacity building and impact assessment, as well as discussions with PRIMA representatives.

A collaborative workshop also brought together the teams involved in the WaterMED Labs to discuss their activities, strengthen cooperation between the different sites and prepare the next steps of implementation. The meeting provided an important opportunity for partners to meet in person, coordinate their work and establish a common framework for collaboration at the start of the SIRENA project.
